Reflecting on the first half of 2025

I cannot believe the first half of the year is almost over already! Time sure does fly when you’re covered in thread.

As I sit and reflect at how great things have been at the retreat center, I cam completely humbled. I have met so many wonderful and beautiful people. They have each arrived with nervous smiles, yet left with deep hugs and new friendships.

Crafters, creators, quilters…….they put sew much of themselves into the work they make. I know the person that receives the gifts they make appreciate it. But no one really appreciates it quite as much as fellow creatives. I look at the quilter that stares at a seam long enough to rip it apart 3 times just to get it right, knowing that they will be the only one that ever notices their imperfection. But it’s just not in us to give an imperfect piece of ourselves. We create, give, and love as a whole piece of ourselves that will reach far beyond the intended recipient.

We received a guest designer, Julius Rempe-Night of Julius Handmade. He led us in the creation of his breath-taking pattern, Guardian of the Light. Though we all followed the same pattern, the angel wings received a different meaning from each of us. For one retreater, it was the first pattern that their child could connect with enough to actually request it be made, even choosing the color palette themself. For another, it was their first time working with Batiks and this pattern was the perfect pattern to highlight and showcase the tender work that goes into hand-dyed batiks.

For me, I began the project thinking of all of the people that have moved onto heaven and are watching over me. But as I witnessed everyone else’s wings being drafted and pinned onto the design walls, I felt a sense of security, love, and comfort that my business endeavor, my ultimate dream, was being safely guarded by the creative energy spinning around the room. To have worked so hard to build a safe space to create, and then suddenly look up and see myself surrounded by beautiful Guardian Angels wings in every color of the rainbow was breathtaking. I didn’t complete my wings. I was too busy soaking in the comforting energy of the retreaters that were finally allowed to take a break in their lives to do something so very special. I am so humbled that they chose me and my retreat center to JUST….LET….GO.

Thank you to everyone that has lifted me up and supported me. An ever bigger thank you to everyone that has trusted me and allowed me into their creative spaces. I have tons of retreats up on the calendar and have space open for crafty holiday parties and get togethers.

I hope to spend some time with you and yours.
